About me

I am a game designer & graduate from the Georgia Institute of Technology. My other concentrations are in UX, practical applications of semi-autonomous agents, & software engineering.

All of these deal with systems of interaction between more-or-less independent components. While the internal logic of the actors & organization differs, these interconnected webs are directly comparable.

I’ve always had a an interest in the way a games’ mechanics create the themes, ‘message’, or ‘meaning’ of a game. Genres such as 4X “map games”, or old-school strategy-tactics hybrids in the vein of X-COM, may seem to have little thematic content; yet they train players into rigorous, unemotional consideration of their webs of possibilities. The medium is still the message.

Projects

Junior Design

GA Tech’s Junior Design Program matches groups of Computer Science & Computational Media students with outside ‘clients’ who need assistance. My team matched with Restoration Atlanta (“RATL”) to create a attendance-tracking webapp which was as easy to use as a paper checklist.

Senior Capstone: Game Studio

One of the final requirements of any degree awarded by the Georgia Institute of Technology is the Senior Capstone, a semester-long studio which produces a working prototype of a video game, or other piece of interactive media. This prototype is ideally a “vertical slice” of gameplay, effectively a miniature version of the entire game. My team created Lost Time, a laid-back interactive narrative; to which I contributed the Dialogue Front-End & implemented the UI.

Game Design Club Student Project: Melody Star

Melody Star is a rythym/piano-playing game developed by Georgia Tech students through the VGDev club. I contributed the art, story and writing for the pixel art band.
